Recently, when discussing colours with a client, I noticed this look of dread across her face. Later, it got me thinking…..why are people so nervous when choosing colour palates for their interiors….how can I help the client to colour with confidence? So…with that question in mind, here are a few basic tips on the subject!

Let me say…..there is no getting away from it….figuring out what colour to use in your home can be a daunting and often confusing experience. So much advice is out there now between Blogs, Websites, facebook. Just when you think you have a handle on it…along comes a new trend or another ‘cromology expert’ and BANG!!!! You’re right back where you started…alone…confused, and feeling slightly inadequate! So here’s the deal … one of the most important tips to get you started…begin with a palate that YOU like! A little bit of practice putting together a colour palate and you can become just as skilled as the ‘experts’ out there who often, when asked, like to make the client feel privileged when they part with their KNOWLEDGE. Another tip…..it is NOT important for you to follow trends…seriously, it isn’t! According to Jill Morton (Founder of Colorcom) ”A golden rule: No Trend applies to all consumers, all of the time, and the ‘new’ isn’t always better than the ‘old.” Good advice there from a colour goddess! kwww.colorcom.com

So folks..off with you to the paint store and jump head first into that AMAZING world of colour. Be brave! Take that tin by the handle and come out fighting, ready to take on that room in your house/office/shed/boat, whatever! You know what I’m talking about, the door you keep closing EVERY TIME YOU PASS IT!!!!!

PRODUCT TIP
I tend to work mostly with earth pigments. However, when I am not using pigments my preference would always be Colortrend. Why? It’s simple really! This is a paint that is hard to beat for quality, colour, texture, durability, & appearance. I have never been disappointed with the end results using this product. When it comes to painting furniture, I use this product all the time and the water based paint works particularly well when used for specialist techniques i.e. distressing, colour washing, and liming. So, in my opinion, once you begin to use this product, nothing else seems to quite comes up to scratch! It’s like painting with double cream…yum! Yum! Also, (and this is a no brainer) this is a home grown product capable of competing with multinationals…how cool is that! We have a Colortrend supplier here right on our door step in Waterford (on the Tramore Road) so, no excuses. Check it out and when you need some help, don’t be afraid to ask for it, and then ask, and ask again! Let me know how you get on!
